Qualifications and Skills

  • Education at least master’s degree or university postgraduate degree qualification in either veterinary or food science & technology.
  • Specialisation in an area dealing with veterinary public health, food hygiene and food safety or food safety risk assessment.
  • Fluent in English, oral and written.
  • Command of written and spoken Turkish will be an asset.

General Professional Experience

  • Ten years post-graduate experience in veterinary public health or food science and technology, including experience in drafting standards and procedures for the implementation of food hygiene and food safety standards along the food production chain.
  • Ten years of post-graduate experience in planning and the implementation of ‘official’ controls, along the production of milk and milk products, according to the EU standards

Specific Professional Experience

  • Ten years post-graduate experience in drafting / preparing HACCP plans for dairy processing establishments.
  • Five years post-graduate experience in food safety risk assessment.
  • Experience in capacity building on the implementation of the EU food safety requirements in at least one technical assistance project – the project scope covering also trade/placing on the EU market of milk and milk products.
  • Experience in establishing and/or implementation of “milk channelling schemes” (including procedure for channelling of milk from “compliant” farms to approved export establishments), and evaluation of the results of the ‘official’ controls will be an asset.

Notes:

  1. The Key Expert must be independent and free from conflict of interest in the responsibilities taken on.
  2. The senior food safety expert shall be recruited for an input of an estimate of 450 working days to be divided into several inputs in order to provide assistance during the overall project lifespan.
  3. The senior food safety expert will be based in Nicosia, Cyprus. S/he will travel when necessary across the northern part of Cyprus to assess the situation on the ground, including in food business operators premises, farms, laboratories, local administrative bodies, other as necessary.
