GREEN DEAL: FINANCING ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES
The European Commission has made official the Work Programme “Cross-cutting activities” which integrates the areas and topics of the new Green Deal Call: “Building a low-carbon, climate resilient future: Research and innovation in support of the European Green Deal”.
The Green Deal is an integral part of this Commission’s strategy to implement the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 and sustainable development objectives, as well as the policy guidelines announced by President Ursula Von der Leyen.
This call is a response to these challenges. It is a new strategy for sustainable growth that aims to transform the EU into a fair and prosperous society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy, where there are no net emissions of greenhouse gases in 2050 and where economic growth is decoupled from resource use.
This call is a direct contribution to the European Commission’s European Green Deal (EC COM -2019), which sets out the path for a fundamental transformation of economies and societies. The call responds to the urgent need to address the climate crisis and to provide greater protection for the continent’s own environment and biodiversity. At the same time, the call addresses the equally urgent challenge of helping Europe’s recovery from the Covid-19 crisis by contributing directly to the EU Recovery Plan for Europe (Europe’s moment: Repair and Prepare for the Next Generation, EC COM -2020).
